The Florestan Trust

The Florestan Festival is an established chamber music festival directed by The Florestan Trio, for the local community in Peasmarsh and Rye which attracts a significant number of visitors to the region each year. We want to expand our education programme and reinstate the Friday orchestral concert.

Access to high quality classical music, particularly chamber music, is restricted in the rural area of Peasmarsh & Rye, due to a lack of suitable concert venues & organisations to fulfil this need. In addition, primary school access to high quality music education projects is restricted by the small size of local schools & therefore their budgets, & the lack of relevant organisations who can deliver appropriately targeted programmes that meet the high standard that the Florestan Festival offers.

The Florestan Festival will present 8 concerts in 4 days during June 2011, including an orchestral chamber concert, & deliver an education programme which will give Key Stage 2 children (age 7-11) a profound & engaging experience of live classical music, both as audience members, composers & performers. We will extend this programme by including a schools concert, & also a 'Cushion Concert' for the Under 5s to introduce chamber music to young children in an informal atmosphere at an early age.
