Situation

Every year, half of UK local authorities ask CFAB to arrange a kinship assessment of relatives overseas, which is essential to reuniting a child with their family. However, in Bangladesh we cannot ensure assessments can be obtained quickly enough or to the standard required by UK courts, resulting in too many children remaining in local authority care. We therefore need to develop the capacity of our partner to increase the number of children in the UK who could be placed with relatives there.

Solution

By building the capacity of our partner in Bangladesh, we will increase our collective ability to reunite children moving between Bangladesh and the UK with their families. CFAB will support SOF via: • Online and face-to-face mentoring to enable SOF people to grow and develop. • Training in implementing international standards, e.g. UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. • Establishing quality systems for monitoring and supervision. • Strengthening leadership and strategy.
