We politely request support towards the purchase of a new mobile Youth Bus. This will deliver services to young people in need across a wider area including rural locations and areas in the city where there is no current youth provision.

    Situation

The child population in Bristol is growing rapidly, approximately 3 times faster than the national average. However youth services in Bristol are being cut by 30%. These cuts and a lack of activities will have a direct negative impact on Bristol’s children and young people. Sadly, poverty remains the leading predictor of poor life outcomes. Bristol has the highest levels of child poverty in the South West, with 27.8 per cent of children in Bristol from disadvantaged backgrounds. (IOD)

    Solution

Working closely with community groups, parish councils, police and local people the Youth Bus will deliver activities for and with local young people over a set number of days per week for an agreed number of months including: • Social, creative, multi-media, sporting, indoor and outdoor projects and activities. • Job and homework guidance and support • Provision of healthy food plus tips in food preparation, as part of the ‘Feeding Bristol’ initiative • A safe place to talk
