In Uganda today there are over 50,000 children living in orphanages. Orphanages have been proven to do irreversible damage to children’s social, emotional, physical and mental development. There is no such thing as a good orphanage. As many as 80% of children living in orphanages have family. Often poverty leads parents to give up their children to an orphanage to access education and medical care in the promise of a better life but children need families to thrive.

We want to show orphanages can be part of the solution. Families, not orphanages will work with an orphanage with 50 children and support them with technical expertise to safely place children into families and repurpose into a community service to support the children in orphanages. We will use this to show other orphanages how they can be part of the solution and realise a vision of every children growing up loved in a family.
