In Britain, most whale and dolphin strandings happen around Scotland’s rugged coastline and we urgently need help to fund a new, fully equipped marine mammal ambulance for the country’s only specialist 24 hour whale and dolphin rescue unit.

    Situation

The CRRU coordinate Scotland’s only specialist, 24 hour whale and dolphin rescue effort. The organisation works in collaboration with other groups, volunteers, vets and scientists and therefore brings expert up-to-date knowledge to every rescue attempt. But without a suitable rescue vehicle, we cannot offer this vital life-saving service.

    Solution

Reaching a rescue site quickly and having specialist equipment to hand means the difference between life and death for stranded cetaceans. The sought-after Ambulance will be able to cope with the difficult terrain of Scotland’s battered Atlantic shoreline. It will ensure rescue teams can get as close as possible to injured and stranded marine mammals. The vehicle will be equipped with a winch, stretchers, harnesses and refloatation pontoons, as well as spotlights to aid searches and night rescue
