People with MS, Parkinson's, ME & other neurological conditions are acutely disadvantaged due to a lack of direct, regular, ongoing NHS support. Close links exist between chronic health problems & depression, often leading to crisis & reduced quality of life: - 50-60% of people with MS & Parkinson’s have anxiety/depression - bipolar is twice as prevalent in people with MS - 30% lifetime incidence of suicidal intent in MS - the health of 52% of Carers is affected by their caring role
With a focus on Counselling, Occupational Therapy and Multi-Sensory interventions, “COPE” will be delivered by qualified professionals experienced in working with people with neurological conditions. Supporting both people with a neurological condition & their Carers, “COPE” will provide time limited, goal-focused support in both 1:1 and group settings. The structured programme will help them learn techniques & develop strategies to deal with issues known to accompany living with a condition.
