Situation

The Active People Survey shows that many local people do not achieve recommended levels of physical activity. Combined with not eating correctly, this results in increased obesity and associated health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, which is increasing in the UK (Diabetes UK). There are many young people in Headingley but not many health/well being related acitivities on offer, so Lishi fills a distinct gap in provision.

Solution

This project aims to develop, promote and deliver more accessible classes for local people in the community. Headingley Lishi Arts engages with local authorities, community groups and local health agencies to ensure the group's activities are compatible with other local strategies and joined-up community thinking. Lishi movement and dance from China provides an alternate approach to the usual mainstream services.
