People in the remotest islands of Guinea Bissau are very much disadvantaged with lack of water, sanitation and healthy food. We would want to expand our work in five islands providing safe source of water, sanitation and market gardens supporting over 8000 people - therefore improving health.

Situation
Many live here, do not have access to safe water. The sources are very shallow and people drinking them often fall ill or even die. The people in the islands are very isolated and very poor. They had to depend on fish and some root plants for their survival. Their health is very poor and have very limited support. Children die as a result of water borne diseases. Women suffer from ill health as they had to walk a long way to fetch dirty water.
Solution
Providing a water source, helps them re-build their lives. We provide closed wells - means that they are healthy. We provide education in promoting good health practices. We build latrines and educate them the benefits of them. We also work with a number of women and provide them agricultural training enabling them to grow healthy vegetables and also sell them in the nearest markets. We link other NGOs with the villages to provide sustainable support.
