Daily life in Villa Maria is tough and families are constantly struggling to make ends meet. With their parents forced to work long hours, many children receive little parental supervision. A lack of access to public facilities (e.g. cultural and recreational centres) and entertaining activities means boredom soon sets in. With little else to do these children become vulnerable to the risks of drugs and crime, ending up as targets for criminals and in trouble with the law.

We plan to implement a travelling programme of cultural and recreational activities, using our recreational minibus as a mobile centre for learning and entertainment. By taking these activities into different communities we will promote culture and learning, and provide a wholesome and productive way for children to spend their free time. This project is designed to be a preventative measure to combat the social issues that afflict the area.
