Battersea Summer Scheme primarily operates during the school summer holidays when many young have no activities or opportunities to keep them occupied. They often have absent parents and the street becomes their playground which is where many problems arise. Boredom and poverty are a dangerous combination. and with a lack of positive direction many of the young turn to crime or become victims of crime. Gang culture is high in the borough and cultural and locality issues create many problems.

Our aim is to encourage local young people to take part in positive activities, to have an adventure instead of loitering around with nothing to do. These young people can be very vulnerable and easily become victims of crime or, worse still, be tempted to commit a crime. We try to reach them before this happens. We organise these day trips to various exciting venues across the South East to help keep them occupied and so out of trouble.
