Globally, 450 million people currently suffer from mental disorders according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), and over three-quarters of them live in the developing world. Only 10-20% of those receive any form of treatment whatsoever. What’s more, mental and neurological disorders directly account for 13% of the global disease burden worldwide making it one of the largest contributors to global disability and death. This is a serious and urgent problem.

BasicNeeds’ proven community based Model for Mental Health and Development works with partners to provide treatment to affected people, the prospect of earning an income and re-integrating into their communities. BasicNeeds is scaling up its operations to improve the lives of many more affected people, predominantly by franchising this Model to independent organisations.
