    Situation

The South Aisle of the Cathedral is a wonderful piece of architecture but is suffering from the erosion of almost 700 years. The buttresses and bays are in dire need of restoration and the masonry requires detailed repair to avoid any potential collapse of the wall in the future. The project is essential, not only for the aesthetics of the building but also to make sure that the area is conserved for future generations.

    Solution

The solution has been to replace and restore decayed stonework, whilst conserving as much of the surviving mediaeval fabric as possible. The buttresses will be safeguarded from further water damage by the wonderful new gargoyles (designed and sculpted by our own masons in house), ensuring that water can drain away from the building, so preventing more erosion. The stained glass windows have also benefitted from the attention of our stained glass restorer and his team of craftspeople.
