Many visually impaired individuals suffer a lack of confidence in their abilities to perform normal daily activities - preparing food, taking medication etc. - and some become housebound and very insular as a result, many also have little or no family infrastructure to call upon. These factors, and the fact that East Suffolk is mainly a very rural environment where transport infrastructure is often very limited often leads to wider health issues and problems of social exclusion and isolation.
We aim to ensure our members maintain a safe and independent existence and an element of social interaction and interest. We provide Community Workers, who visit visually impaired people in their own homes to assess their needs and who then assist in implementing an appropriate action plan, including advising and sourcing if required relevant technological and daily living aids. Alongside this we facilitate social and sporting groups on a regular basis providing much needed companionship.
