    Situation

The aim of this project is to provide our organisation with strong physical presence within the local community that demonstrates and promotes sustainable energy use to the public. It will be Brent's first truly zero carbon building, producing all of its energy requirements on site and exporting surplus energy to the national grid. The building will have a dual function. The ground floor will serve as public visitor & education centre demonstrating a range renewable and energy efficiency technologies and also a drop in advice centre. The upper floor will provide office space for our charity to carry out its primary functions. The eco conversion will utilise best practice in sustainable design and construction keeping the carbon foot print to a minimum. It will incorporate the following renewable energy technologies including; • 2.25MW/h of solar photo voltaic roof panels • Biomass Combined Heat & Power Unit (CHP) – running on locally produced biodiesel • Wood pellet boiler – to provide additional space heating • Grid connected wind turbine It will also incorporate a number of sustainable design features including a plant room to house the CHP unit constructed using a ‘rammed earth’ building technique, a small organic garden to supply the office with seasonal fruits & vegetables and rainwater harvesting to provide water for toilet flushing and gardening. The centre will enable Energy Solutions to expand its services by running a program of open days and educational courses with a particular focus and linking with our Schools Project and the neighboring Ecology centre to educate children about all aspects of sustainable living. We are looking for match funding to ensure the successful and timely delivery of the project.
