Scarborough North Bay community lost it's main activity and social centre when the Corner Cafe Complex was demolished in April 2007 to make way for the "Sands Development". The local Council offered/suggested the use of the Spa Complex at the far end of South Bay. Scarborough Indoor Bowls Centre offered their function room to local organisations/clubs but the room was too small. An opportunity exists to extend the room and recreate a new home for the various North Bay clubs, societies etc.

Situation
There is scope, with the local Council's approval to extend the existing function room outwards and in so doing double the width and size of the room. With the provision of a dance floor, that could be covered when not in use for dances, the room would be multi-purpose, and ideal for many of the organisations that lost their home in April 2007. This would include nursery groups, social and recreational clubs, afternoon tea-dances, evening functions and general hire for parties, weddings etc. Activities and organisations that would span all age groups. The Centre's existing room is already home to the North Bay residents association and the extension would build on this relationship with the immediate rea. At the same time there would be an opportunity to extend along the width of the rest of the building and in so doing provide the facility to enlarge and improve the existing toilet and changing room facilities. At the present time, due to lack of funding, no detailed plans or cost estimates have been drawn up, but the project should fall within the £100k bracket.
