We want to engage young people on the Bidston Rise Estate in a community arts project to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve the look of the estate as it goes through a period of regeneration. Artwork will be fixed to empty properties in the estate to create a more positive atmosphere while the regeneration is occurring.

    Situation

Bidston Rise Estate is going through a period of change. WPH are currently appraising options for the estate with a view to regenerating the area in the next 3 to 5 years. In the interim, many properties that become empty (void) are remaining in that condition rather than being re-let. This is creating a run down street scene and encouraging anti-social behaviour from young people living in the estate. At the heart of the estate is Bidston Rise Community House who are working to engage these young people to reduce their Anti-Social Behaviour and engage them in the regeneration process. WPH and Bidston Rise Community House want to run a community arts project to enage young people in the estate and reduce Anti-Social Behaviour. The art work produced through the project will then be displayed on the void properties to improve the street scene. This will in turn discourage vandalism to those properties as the potential vandals will have produced the artwork in the first place. We have had discussions with an artist who has estimated the costs of the project to be £35-40k depending on which of several options we choose.
