    Situation

Whitby is mainly dependent on tourism, so, if you have a job, the chances are you'll be extra busy in the summer holidays - so you need child care. If you aren't at work, you probably can't afford the tourist prices for boat trips, go karts, crazy golf, etc and it's not always warm enough for a day on the beach. And if your child has disabilities or special needs, the summer holidays can seem especially long. But we have the answer - quality affordable inclusive playschemes - four over the summer in Whitby and one in the rural area, plus regular village play days. Children from 5 to 12 can enjoy sports and games, arts and craft, songs and music, special events, outings and lots of fun! We cater for 500 children of all abilities and one to one enablers ensure that those with special needs receive all the support they need to be able to take part in everything. All our venues activities and outings are fully accessible. Each scheme has a theme (such as last summer's Movie Madness, which incorporated a flm-making workshop) and special event days reflect the theme. Outings are to places not too far away but which the children might not have visited before. Through the schemes the children learn learn team work, respect for each other, new skills of all kinds. Their confidence increases and they make new friends. Children come back year after year to take part in the schemes, which also offer valuable respite to families with a child with special needs and quality child care for working parents The summer activities week programme, for young people aged 12 plus, is chosen by the participants from year to year through evaluation, discussion and feedback. It offers a range of activities from street dancing to music workshops, to a day at a theme park to skating, bowling, team challenge days etc. Many of our Saturday Stars and Junior Helpers attend Activities Week, cementing existing friendships and promoting new ones. Oh, and we run Easter minischemes too!
