    Situation

There isn't much to do if you're under 5 in Whitby - yes, the beach is great but it's pretty cold in winter. And if you live in one of the rural villages there's even less - farms and country lanes aren't really very safe places to play. Public transport round here is costly and infrequent so families can feel very isolated too. It's not surprising then that there is such a demand for our touring play project. FIT TOTS is a physical play programme with gymnastic equipment and game songs, soft play and game songs, encouraging co-ordination, gross motor skills and socialisation. Parents / carers join in and play with their children. We run 2 sessions weekly in Whitby and 9 sessions in the rural villages where there is often no other play provision. We cater for children of all abilities and positively welcome those with disabilities. We have equipment especially suitable for children with special needs and our project workers are trained to enable these children to participate fully. An average of 12 children attend each village session and 40 attend each session in Whitby ART TOTS is a creative play project encouraging fine motor skills, creativity and socialisation. Some of our creative play is fairly messy! We provide overalls and a variety of materials and run a touring programme in Whitby and the rural villages . On average there are 10 children attending each session Art Tots also incorporates a mobile TOY LIBRARY, with many toys especially suitable for children with a disability £30,000 a year is needed to fund this project, its workers, training, volunteer expenses, venue hire, vehicle, diesel and maintenance and equipment
