Despite being the third most popular pet rabbits have been identified as the most neglected pet animal in the UK. At least 35,000 rabbits enter UK rescue shelters each year. Although, it is suspected that this number is a gross underestimation and the real numbers are significantly higher. There is a virtually no rescue support available for rabbits in our local area. Therefore, the competition for rescue spaces in huge.
Improving and extending our outdoor rabbit reception facilities will significantly improve the welfare of rescue rabbits whilst in our care. It will also significantly increase our ability to help more rabbits on an ongoing basis.
