Teens and Toddlers gives disadvantaged young people the life skills, qualifications and self belief they need to keep them in school and to fulfil their full potential. Only 3.3% of our graduates become NEET (not in employment, education and training) - five times less than the national average.

    Situation

There are nearly one million unemployed 16-24 year olds (Office of National Statistics) and the risk of becoming NEET has increased by over 40% since the recession (Private Equity Foundation). Young people who are NEET are at high risk of teen pregnancy (the UK has the highest rate in Europe), crime, drugs and alcohol, having a major impact on their community. Young people who are NEET cost the government £4.6 billion a year.

    Solution

We want to reach more disadvantaged young people by expanding our Teens and Toddlers programme to eight new local authorities in London and countrywide (we are currently in 25). This programme will: empower young people to develop life skills, aspiration and new positive life goals; develop their emotional literacy (confidence, self management/valuing and social skills) and educate about the impact of risky behaviour, such as teen pregnancy, drugs and alcohol.
