Working with local people to build a school so children from very poor families are given the chance to go to school. The school will provide not just education but food and life skills to improve the life chances of some of the most vulnerable children in Kenya.

Situation
The shortage of access to education for children from very poor families. The area is one of subsistence farming, mostly on very small plots of land. There is a slum area which "houses" children who have no access to education. Many children are orphans because of HIV/Aids and some because of the post election troubles of 2007-8.
Solution
We have purchased land and started to build a school. The school is now registered with the authorities which means the children can sit state examinations and gain qualifications. The funding is not just for building classrooms but it is establishing sustainable projects that will provide a long term income for the school. This will mean it can continue to provide education for even the poorest children in the area.
