Wood Green Animal Shelters

A New Animal Surgery for our Godmanchester Shelter

40% of the thousands of animals taken in at our Shelter in Godmanchester require veterinary treatment, neutering or major operations. Our Surgery is in desperate need of refurbishment and new equipment. We rely entirely on the public for donations to equip the new surgery.

Situation

Our existing surgery was built 25 years ago. It was not designed for the large number of patients that we have to care for today and as a result we face a number of issues. The surgery is very cramped, and we are short of operating space with only one theatre. The current x-ray facility is housed in what was originally a small storage room. Our pre and post operative areas are in the same room, so we are unable to keep animals waiting for surgery separate from those who are recovering.

Solution

The new surgery will feature 2 operating theatres and separate recovery wards for cats, dogs and small animals. It will also have a much needed intensive care unit, and a new laboratory. A biochemistry machine will enable us to test samples on site, meaning that we can diagnose animals quicker and without the additional cost of sending them off for testing. New operating equipment, such as a digital viewing screen, will enable us to carry out more major operations on site, saving time and money.
