This project looks at how asbestos was used in the 20th Century, so that we can both record this period of our industrial history and raise awareness of the legacy. Asbestos was so widely used that there are traces of it in a wide range of locations and we want to highlight where it might be found.

    Situation

People renovating old buildings or collecting vintage items need to know where asbestos was used and where it might be found. Those working in museums or at heritage sites also need to be aware and be mindful when handling items in their archives. People just clearing out an old attic might also come across asbestos without realising and unwittingly release asbestos into the environment.

    Solution

By collecting and distributing the relevant information. We are asking people to tell us about where they used asbestos and to share any photographs that they might have. We are posting our findings on a website, Facebook page and Twitter account and preparing a leaflet and display.
