DAST aim to hold several of these Sessions each year, at locations throughout the East Midlands. We invite people who are suffering from an asbestos related disease such as Mesothelioma and Lung cancer to come along and have tea and cakes and meet others in the same situation.

    Situation

Those suffering from asbestos disease often feel isolated. Mesothelioma in particular is a little known condition and it is rare that a sufferer will know of someone else that has been affected. Often, people become weary of having to explain what Mesothelioma is. Mesothelioma is a traumatic disease as it is and these feelings of isolation reduce further the chance of general wellbeing and optimism.

    Solution

Our meet up sessions bring people together from a similar geographical area. They are given tea and cakes and an informal environment where they can chat and make new contacts, even friends. DAST have professional people in place to answer any questions that may have arisen since diagnosis. Carers/spouses/friends/family are also welcome as they are also often in need of support too.
