    Situation

Following successful pilot courses in 2008, we need support to reach more young people with our 4-day residential course which builds self esteem, confidence, direction and purpose among 14-18 year olds. We have already seen a 25% improvement in key attitudes from the pilot, and positive outcomes for the participants. Drawing on the best mix of techniques from adult leadership and teamwork training, "Fire Me Up!" will benefit almost any teenager. Unlike most youth projects, we mix young people from every background, giving them a chance to question their assumptions about life, away from their normal peer group. Funding of just £250 per young person helps us to deliver the course for (nearly) free for disadvantaged young people, and to subsidise the cost for parents who are able and willing to contribute. Both audiences are essential to deliver the benefits we want to see. Most of our staff costs are already covered, and we need funding to contribute towards course accommodation, food, activities (£22k in 2010), trainer, speaker and coaching costs (£17k), as well as essential costs such as activities insurance and expenses such as travel for volunteers and participants (£7k). Full budget available on request.
