Situation
Five cousins who survived the massacre of their family in Podujevë, Kosovo were brought to the UK by the British Army for treatment. They asked MAK to create the Manchester Peace Park in their home town in NE Kosovo. Much of MAK's work develops and resources this region focussing on education, recreation and the arts. Already completed: • Plan • Drainage • Planting of the 1 acre Peace Garden (trees and plants to the value of £30,000) • Paved arena • Woodland paths (with the support of United Nations Development Programme) • 3 children's play areas • Trim trail Awaiting completion: • Sports facilities (£12,000) • Perimeter fencing (£14,000) • Peace garden paths (£ 8,000) • Installation of art (£ 6,000) • Entrance (£ 2,000) • Seating (£ 3,000) • Community Centre (£15,000) Funds needed for completion: £60,000
