    Situation

These girls, all low caste, are orphans or semi-orphans (their parents cannot afford to look after them). They have no furniture and only one set of clothes Their toilet facilities are outside in the garden and they share six cold water taps for washing themselves, their clothes and their dishes. The proposed new building would be multi-roomed with bedrooms, an assembly room, dining room, kitchen, a room for the house mother and INDOOR toilets and showers. An area would be set aside for the skills centre so the girls may learn to provide for themselves when they leave the home. Weaving is already taught. It is important that these girls have a warm home as they "live" in the foothills of the Himalayas and the winters can be so cold. This building will give them that warm home and also the chance to prepare for their future. It is intended that the building will be two storey, land for the project has already been donated, with the day rooms on the ground floor and bedrooms and toilets on the first floor. Using local labour and materials will mean that we help to bring an income into the local areas, funding required has been calculated at £60,000. This will build and furnish the entire project. £25,000 will start the project and build the ground floor.
