This project is to complete a major overhaul of 1310, a North Eastern Railway Class H 0-4-0T, built in 1891. It is hoped to have this completed for the locomotive to run in 2012, being the 200th anniversary of the first commercial steam locomotive to run on the Middleton Railway in 1812.

    Situation

    One of the oldest locomotives at Middleton is 1310, a North Eastern Railway Class H 0-4-0T, built in 1891 at their Gateshead works. (Works No.38) The boiler has left site and will undergo repairs at a professional boilermakers. All the other work will be carried out by our own volunteers at the Railway's workshops in Hunslet, Leeds The boiler repairs are estimated to cost £30,000.00, all other costs will be absorbed by the Railway.
