It is our vision for 2010 to establish a larger accommodation provision for street children outside of the city where they can rebuild their lives in safety with support from our team of volunteers and carers. We intend to offer vocational training at this centre where the children and young people can gain skills to help them become independent members of society.

    Situation

Our current accommodation provision is too small and is in the city centre. We would like to establish a larger centre away from the difficulties these children have encountered on the streets, where they will have a chance to make a fresh start. There are estimated to be betweeen 2,000 and 5,000 children living on the streets of Lubumbashi. Maison Kimbilio aims to give back a hope and a future to children who have been abandoned by their families and who have lost any sense of value and sense of self worth as they seek to survive from day to day on the streets. We are aiming to raise £250,000 towards our long term goal of locating land and building appropriate housing and educational faciilities for the children and young people who will be living there.
