Cancer affects the lives of many people – patients, family, friends and professional carers. Cancer Support Scotland provides a range of free services, to those living with cancer. The new Support Centre will provide much needed additional space to extend the provision of these vital services.

    Situation

With life expectancy rising, there are more people in our communities, which sadly means many more cancer patients and families coping with and adapting to living with the disease. Demand for our services is increasing, with referrals from other cancer charities, oncology professionals and directly from patients. Currently we work from a 2nd floor former nurses flat in the Gartnavel grounds, but more space is required with accessible, dedicated facilities for the specialist services we provide.

    Solution

The new support centre will be a fully equipped with specific rooms, areas and resources to meet the current and future needs of the patients and families we work with. This will include counselling rooms, wig and hairdressing area, therapy suite, information centre, library space, welcome area, offices and a peaceful garden area. Additionally there will be space for use by both Cancer Support Scotland and the local community for education, training, workshops and meetings.
