openDemocracy's Circle project aims to bring writers and groups together for live meetings. In a world that is trying to recover from the social atomisation of "Bowling Alone", there is an opportunity to advance the habits of democracy and human rights by creating and encouraging these new social forums that fuse the web and the physical on a global scale. openDemocracy authors will be given the opportunity to maintain information about their whereabouts and the topics on which they are willing to lead discussion groups. openDemocracy "Circles" are groups that get together for live meetings. They will have access to the where-abouts and timetable of openDemocracy authors to schedule local physical meetings. Readers will have access to a listing of Circles to find groups and meetings they can get involved in. They will also be able to create their own Circles. openDemocracy will provide this "brokerage" service and will post information on how to run a good meeting, how to feedback information for other Circles to use, and what meetings are planned where.
