A clear understanding of European history is at the heart of a vision of an integrated Union, where people are conscious and respectful of their differences yet understanding the lessons of history clearly and objectively.
Cultural and linguistic issues mask some of the more striking or controversial historical concepts. Using the unique angle of the medium of language to explore a specific historical perspective and how this is presented in various different cultures across Europe should open up a very rewarding discourse, benefiting educators and pupils alike.
