Situation

The young people we work with suffer many issues, feel isolated from family and community, feel deeply stigmatised and struggle to see a positive future, a large number lack parental support and most have little access to disposable income to take part in positive recreational activities. Access to recreational opportunities are often prejudiced by social and economic pressures and by fear of abuse and bullying. Young people should be able to enjoy recreation time free from these pressures.

Solution

We offer a wide range of activities that are key to physical and emotional well being. They include; team games, arts and crafts, cooking, a Breakfast club on a Saturday, board games, pool and access to computers. We have a chill out area which young people often use to discuss concerns with youth workers. Youth workers are fully trained to provide individual support, if necessary. Indeed, many of the children we support are vulnerable and have difficult family situations to cope with at home.
