Friends of East Sussex Hospices

Core Operating Costs For East Sussex Hospices

The Friends of East Sussex hospices raises funds and awareness for the nine hospices serving the people of East Sussex. All of these hospices receive below the national average government funding - some significantly below! Our project is to continue to raise core operating costs for them. To date we have distributed £540,000 to the nine hospices we support.

Our nine hospices have to raise around £29 million each year in order to continue providing their valuable services. Most hospices in this area receive significantly below the national average in Government funding. This problem is compounded by the fact that East Sussex has the highest percentage of very elderly residents of any county in England. Consequently it also has the highest rate of natural decrease in population (more deaths than births) of any shire county in England in relation to the size of its population.
