Deforestation is a huge problem in the Nkhata Bay North region resulting in large areas of bare land which is not being used. Malnutrition is another problem among many households as they lack a varied diet.

The project will implement the re-forestation of bare lands through establishment of tree nurseries, it will also create awareness among the targeted population of the need to conserve forest resources and improving the knowledge and skills of the targeted population through training and demonstration of improved forestry management.
