Situation

Motovators Shed currently works with vulnerable adults recovering from various mental health illnesses. Some of the side effects from both the mental health illness and the medication result in cognitive, sensory and motor development on individuals. Based in a rural area in Fife there is very few opportunities for men to get in a shed with tools and build or restore mechanical engines, as much as 68% of men have done this kind of work or as a hobby before they had a diagnosis.

Solution

In the past, motorvators restored an engine for a VW beetle and the same principle will be applied to a motorised trike. Collaboratively working on a project as a team enables individuals to work together to reach a specific goal in building the trike, whilst increasing their own confidence, problem solving, reasoning, planning, skills and a general senses of pride and fulfilment. The project is also a unique way of working to increase cognitive, sensory, esteem, fine motor processing.
