We want to support community participation through time banking and co-production as a means of regenerating and revitalising communities. Time banking can be a platform for community cohesion initiatives contributing to the connectedness, growth and security of local communities.

    Situation

There are a number of initiatives which seek to empower people and groups, empowering them to effect change within their communities. However, these fail to either engage hard to reach groups or produce a long term, sustainable change at the core of the community. We want to provide support to local communities to set up time banks alongside regeneration, development and neighbourhood governance initiatives. This will ensure that people living in the communities are part of the solution and that the programmes make use of untapped skills and resources available. We want to provide training and support to 90 communities over three years, working in partnership to set up initiatives with 6 of these, reaching 900 people and providing a template for Local Authorities, regeneration initiatives and other organisations to follow. This work will cost £120,000 over three years and will pay for a new member of staff to take forward the work, training sessions, information materials and development of our website.
