Getting children interested in the outdoors is crucial in teaching them to care about the environment and its wildlife. Falconry for Schools provides a fun activity for 8-14 year olds. It brings the school curriculum to life whilst offering an opportunity for children to experience a bird of prey.

    Situation

A survey commissioned by Natural England found that children today spend fewer than 10% of their play time outdoors. Instead UK children spend an average of 2.5 hours a day watching TV. As children are given fewer opportunities to play and learn in nature, they will understand it less.

    Solution

Falconry for Schools will teach youngsters the skills of falconry and in doing so learn about the environment and conservation. Falconry for Schools aims to enhance learning using multi-sensory techniques and take learning outside of the classroom. The course can be used to enhance project work, science and history lessons, promote key skills or be used as an enrichment activity. Subjects such as housing and husbandry, bird crime, conservation and how this improves the environment is covered.
