A new project to enable young people 16 to 25 with cerebral palsy and similar conditions to achieve as much independence as possible. A group of Leicestershire young people have already determined the aims of this project, and they will have responsibility for running various events, and for their own space within the STEPS centre in Shepshed.

    Situation

Young people with disabilities are as keen as their peers to achieve as much independence as possible during their teens. STEPPING OUT is a project of their own design which will enable them to develop independent living skills within a safe environment. The project will give them opportunities to manage social gatherings, share useful information by networking amongst the group, prepare snacks and drinks, and invite specialist speakers to inform them about further education and training opportunites, housing, welfare rights and so on.
