6% of 11-15 year old children admit misusing volatile substances despite the fact that VSA can kill instantly. Few people realise that over the past 25 years VSA has killed more young people under the age of 19 than any other drug, including children as young as 7 years old. In 2009, our 25th Anniversary year, Re-Solv's goal is to launch VSA Awareness Day with a major media campaign and, most importantly, by providing educational resources for every maintained secondary school in the UK. Our target is to reach 4,000,000 young people and give them the knowledge and confidence they need to say no to VSA. This first VSA Awareness Day will lay the foundations for an annual event, enabling us to keep schools, youth workers, local authorities/agencies and, most importantly, children, aware of the risks that VSA continues to present in our society and provide them with the tools they need to overcome it.
