SingAbout is a social singing activity based on a recognised music therapy. It can help to improve memory, breathing, movement, speech and confidence. Independent Arts are fundraising to provide regular weekly older peoples singing clubs across the Island.

Situation
The Isle of Wight has a higher than national average number of dementia sufferers and this number is increasing. People with dementia find it fifficult to socialise and often feel isolated and excluded especially if living in one of the Islands rural communities. 'SingAbout' is based on a recognised and highly effective therapeutic arts programme which offers opportunities to connect with others and to benefit from a proven form of music therapy.
Solution
Independent Arts are setting up regular weekly older persons singing clubs at various venues across the Island. These music sessions are available to local dementia sufferers, their carers and families. We are working with experienced music therapists to lead the sessions provide an enjoyable social event whilst adressing issues of health, well-being and community integration.
