This campaign has now closed

This will take place during the week commencing 5th October 2008, when we hope to raise awareness of Selective Mutism amongst teachers and other health and education professionals by distributing posters and leaflets. In addition, we hope to provide training packs to various colleges and training institutions, if funding allows. We are also hoping for Press coverage during this campaign.

    Situation

The cost of our project is £6,000, £2,000 of which has already been raised by parent members. We have identified a lack of awareness amongst teaching staff about this condition, which causes great distress to parents and children alike. Early identification of selective mutism is essential, to prevent these children possibly becoming withdrawn and eventually unemployable. Our aim is to ensure that all nursery school staff and early years teachers are aware of the problem and how to deal with it.
