We would like to secure our local library building from the local authority after the services are relocated. We need the extra capacity that this building offers so that we may continue to support the local community in the realms of advice, guidance, educational needs and training for employment.

    Situation

To secure a public building that was built for public benefit, otherwise it maybe converted into flats. This building is much loved by the community and has served as a public library for over a hundred years, the foundation being laid in 1889. This bid for a donation is not a drive to secure an historic building in the community but to secure it for the community. We would be looking to set up social enterprises that could operate at the site, to provide for education in the community and build the capacity within the community to become more self reliant. Our community is a hugely diverse one and there are some thirty languages spoken in our locality. We serve our community well and provide activities in the areas of the Arts, Education, Health & Wellfare, Sports and Recreation. Monies would be in the region of: £150,000 to secure the premises, £100,000 to refurbish ie activity rooms, creche.
