    Situation

Libraries in rural Nepal continue to be scarce and those which do exist are poorly resourced. Books are deemed valuable items and the few books available are often locked away as prized possessions. Pupils still learn via the rote method and have no books from which to gain inspiration or to learn from. Teachers lack the books & teaching resources essential for their development and also for inspiring themselves and their pupils. Adults & elders in the community are also hungry for books.

    Solution

CAIRN will open the doors to books and the love of reading by building CAIRN Libraries in some of the poorest rural communities. We will equip the libraries with between 1,000-3,000 dual publication, age relevant books. Libraries will also contain valuable learning resources e.g. puzzles & games. We will also train up and develop two librarian staff per school to teach people to read and ensure sustainable Library management by the community.
