Our main aim is to provide a valuable educational service to the young people of Penwith who are unable to fully engage with normal, formal educational opportunities. We hope to provide these young people with the tools and skills required to re-engage with education or to help them into the workplace.

    Situation

We aim to continue to run a three day a week training programme ‘Healthy Positive Futures’ which offers our clients the opportunities to gain valuable skills through different accreditation methods. We use ASDAN awards, National test and other qualifications such as Basic Food Hygiene and First Aid to this aim. We also aim to engage young people from the area in a wide range of positive activities and run activities programmes throughout the school holidays. We will also run a sexual health information, advice and guidance drop in. Young people will use this as a meeting point and will be able to access services such as C-card and Chlamydia testing and also come and talk to trained staff about any other issues that they might be having. We feel that it is important to provide these opportunities and services to all the young people in the area and hope that in engaging them in a wide variety of positive activities we combat the feelings of rural isolation and social exclusion which is so prevalent in our town and the surrounding villages. This provides a sense of belonging and enables these young people to value their community as they feel valued within it.
