    Situation

We need to secure funding to enable the scheme to continue to provide support to families in the South Manchester area. The scheme has been supporting families in Wythenshawe since 1999 and has since that time gradually increased the coverage area due to demand from families and other referral sources. The scheme is proud that it has amongst its pool of volunteers, some parents who started their connection with Home-Start as a family in need of support. Their confidence has grown and enabled them to go into further education and as part of the process they have returned to Home-Start to get valuable experience via volunteering. Home-Start recognises the value of parents supporting parents and the only requirements needed to apply to be a volunteer are parenting experience (not necessarily birth parents) and completion of a fully enhanced CRB check. At this moment in time we are funded by the Big Lottery (in our final year of 6 years funding), South Manchester PCT and Sure Start (the future of these funding strands is uncertain due to changes in local processes)
