We want the disabled children that we support to have fun in the school holidays. Why should they be excluded from joining in at local community centre play schemes because of lack of funding. We plan activities that are appropriate for all children to participate.

    Situation

Children with disabilities need better play scheme provision and more opportunities to interact with other children. The children we support will typically have one or multiple learning difficulties, complex health needs, physical or sensory impairments, challenging behaviour, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism or ADHD. They may also be wheelchair bound. Most have additional high support needs related to poverty, discrimination, social isolation and non working households.

    Solution

We will deliver on a need for a minimum of 105 disabled children and young people aged 5-15 years with complex needs to receive inclusive play at three local leisure centres at Easter and in the Summer Holidays. We are fully inclusive and welcome all children from the three geographical areas where there are greater levels of ethnic diversity and are in the top 10% level of deprivation in the UK.
