Our big idea is to hold a national awards event to recognise those that work to make society more inclusive. We want to hold this event in March 2008 to coincide with our 20th birthday.

    Situation

As a national social care charity CIC (Community Integrated Care) has assisted tens of thousands of people across the UK by offering specialist care and support. CIC delivers a wide range of specialist care and support services: from supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health concerns, to residential and nursing care for older people. As our national reputation as a service provider has grown we have extended our range of services to include support for substance misuse, homelessness, physical disabilities and children’s enablement services. In 20 years we have seen huge changes in the social care sector and we believe that it is right that we recognise not only our social inclusion heroes here at CIC, but also the individuals and organisations in the wider community that have helped to bring about positive change. Therefore, we would like to host a national ‘Community Integration’ awards. Our awards ceremony will recognise individuals and organisations, large and small, that have encouraged social inclusion throughout British society, whilst also applauding the achievements made by some of the people we support. When were formed in 1988, we fought hard to integrate people into the community who had previously been assigned to long stay hospitals. This is why social unity is at the heart of CIC services – we built our successful charity on a vision of an inclusive society and we want to recognise those who make our communities a better, fairer place.
