This Programme is offered within eight of the eleven UK Spinal Injury Centres and delivered by seven part-time Advisors, all of whom have a spinal injury and are ex-patients of the Centre that they were once were in themselves. Where they can’t use their own personal experiences or skills to help, they are able to signpost patients on to other organisations that can assist. The end result is that patients can leave hospital better prepared and more confident about their future. Over 300 new patients benefit from this Programme per annum. For the year 2010-2011, expenditure for this Programme, inclusing all salaries and ancillary capital costs are set at £130,000.
