Computer equipment to provide outreach tuition to disadvantaged children in inner city London Boroughs.
It ran from 2:55 PM, 9 November 2008 to 12:03 PM, 31 December 2008
The Complete Works (TCW) Education service area provides one-to-one Tutors for disadvantaged and excluded young people all over London. This work aims to ensure that the disruption to these young people’s education is minimised and that their educational needs and aspirations are met. TCW wants to provide a new service called “Reach Out” that will pilot the benefits of delivering computer-based tutorials in a very flexible and beneficiary focussed way. This funding will provide a pooled resource of 10 x laptops that will enable us to deliver up to 60 sessions of computer-based outreach tuition per week, at the beneficiary’s home or other appropriate venue. With this equipment TCW Tutors will be able to deliver hard outcomes such as National Curriculum testing (e.g. spelling, maths, some languages), along with work towards AQA assessments and GCSE coursework. Tutors will also use age appropriate Numeracy, Literacy and IT educational software, to re-engage children who have lost all interest in education, to help show them that learning can be fun again. Access to the Internet may also be used to ignite interest and promote learning, but in a structured, safe and supervised manner. The Project wil cost £4,794 for 10 laptops with all appropriate software and licencing.
